Coming from the country that originated electronic techno musick,Dynamical System Collective are an odd sequence of individuals coming from England.Playing dark ambient atmospheric electronick musick. They open the invocative force inside you to various aethyrs.Let's delve into the darkness and see what light surfaces from Dynamical System Collective...

Q: What does DynamicalSystemCollective mean?

A: Dynamical Systems are all around us, forces acting upon a space or state, weather systems are a good example. Patterns of rainfall, wind directions and speeds, the movements of large bodies of water and many other non-linear systems (systems whose variables cannot be expressed as a straight line on a graph). Systems within systems within systems.

Q: How long has DynamicalSystemCollective been around?

A: DSC has been about for a few years now, since about 1997 which was when I started messing with electronic means of making music.

Q: What are your religious and or politcal beliefs?

A: Totally non religious, dont really believe in anything. Religion these days just seems like an excuse for killing people these days. I am interested in religion though not from the viewpoint of wanting to believe in any of it. As for politics, you could say I'm not exactly pro-capitalist but then neither do I sympatise with people whom some would call terrorists. Killing lots of people never solved anything no matter what the motivation behind it.

Q: What type of musick is DynamicalSystemCollective?

A: Interesting question, not sure I can really answer it. It wasnt our intention to really be anything, just make dark music. It all started after hearing Aphex Twins selected ambient works vol II, opened our eyes to the fact that there was more electronic stuff out there than the dance stuff that was rapidly becoming stagnant.

Q: How many official releases does DynamicalSystemCollective have?

A: hah, not sure you could call anything to do with DSC official! but on last count we have 13 cds/albums/demos, we are working on a 14th right now.

Q: Has DynamicalSystemCollective played live?

A: Alas DSC has never played live, we've all done live stuff in other bands just not this one. Hopefully soon we should be able to throw together some kind of live set, who knows.

Q: How many people are in the band currently?

A: Currently theres myself and a friend of mine, Nick P. Though others contribute now and again.

Q: How old are you guys?

A: I am 29 years old and I believe Nick is coming up for 31 soon, a pair of crusted acid casualties we.

Q: What types of music are your favorites?Bands and genres?

A: I can only speak for myself here as I wouldnt begin to presume what Nicks favourite stuff was, I'd only get it wrong anyway. I suppose Death Metal is probably my favourite kind of music, Nile and (old) Morbid Angel being particular favourites. I pretty much listen to most kinds of music from Aphex Twin through to Miles Davis to Neurosis, though David Bowie and Brian Eno particularly float my boat, I could go on about the wealth of excellent music around us all day, there is literally so much stuff I could mention and I'd still probably forget a few.

Q: What is the local scene around you like?

A: Local scene? if there is one then I havent noticed it.

Q: Are you or any of your members involved in side projects?

A: Yes, a few actually. I believe you are aware of them but I shall mention them again anyway.
Uncertainty Principle : my despair fuelled drone doom band. Doom bands arent noisy enough, we are here to rectify the situation (thats the egomaniac in me talking there!).
Edge of Darkness - My ambient stuff away from DSC, not too different to DSC, lets just say I've been trying a few different things with EOD, its basically me just having fun, a bit of passive therapy for me if you will.
ThoraxEmbalmer - My foray into death/black metal. Ive been playing this kind of music for 12 years (though you wouldnt think it on hearing the first thorax demo!!)After an enforced break from this kind of music I decided to record again. The new stuff from this project is the most brutal yet in my opinion. Again just another bit of fun really, though after recording the last demo I'm toying with the idea of doing it as a band. Watch this space!

Q: What are your favorite books, movies,or TV shows?

A: As far as book go, anything sci fi or fantasy. Iain M Banks and Peter F Hamilton (both british writers!) are two favourites of mine though fantasy stuff by the likes of Raymond E Feist and Robert Jordan is pretty cool too.My favourite book at the moment is American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis, Bateman could only be an American! It just wouldnt work if he was Norweigan or something! Movies? Anything Star Trek (dont worry I dont dress up as a klingon or anything like that) rules, though I was quite impressed with first Lord Of The Rings Film, Gandalf was exactly as I imagined him! Tolkien purists might hate it for daring to miss some bits out but then you couldnt possibly include absolutely everything!Dont really watch much TV apart from maybe the Simpsons or any interesting documentrys, I am obsessed with entomology, have been for years, so especialy documentaries about our little insect and arachnoid friends!

Q: What do we expect soon from DynamicalSystemCollective next?

A: What to expect, everything and nothing, unpredictabley unpredictable we shall remain. On a more understandable note we should have another album, or whatever you want to call it, soon. Expect darkness and intense introspection by two miserable old gits from england!

Q: Anything else you want to add?

A: yes, thanks for wanting to interview us! much appreciated. If it wasnt for the interest of people like your self then no one would have even heard of us. Maybe we can return the favour one day. Also check out BoneChurch, friends (or should that be friend?) of ours from NY, done some interesting remixes for us. They were good enough to include us on a compilation cd of theres so I feel it only fair that I shamelessly plug their website!. Visit MachineTribeRecordings
Thanks again!
