Hailing in from Pennsylvania comes a powerful, unique, and impactive act. These artists have their own style of doomy progressive hardcore.Bass ridden with powerful drums and excellent violin make up this triad of power centered in this band!I advise we adventure onward and see what they have to say, because there is many Myles Of Destruction that lie ahead.....
Myles Of Destruction is:
Audrey Crash: violin and driving
Tony Smash: drums and other driving.
The Myles: bass,voices and backseat

Q: Where did Myles of Destruction get the name,What does it mean, and Why did you choose that name?

TONY: I'll let Myles answer that. The name was here when I got here.
AUDREY: Myles has a knack for inadvertently breaking everything in his reach.
MYLES: That is true. To give you a longer answer, in the past I have had a couple of weird dreams involving myself standing alone on a crumbling, vast, ruinous landscape. Literally, Miles of Destruction. The odd thing about these dreams, besides the fact that they simply reoccurred, was that I had a really hard time figuring out what to make of them. at all. Every time I had this dream it carried a different vibe to it, even though it was pretty much the same scenario repeating: complete wreckage and rubble that stretched to the horizon and everyone gone except myself. Throughout the reappearance of this dream, I’ve been both scared out of my mind by it and brought to a loving state of calmness. Overall, I still don’t know what to make of the whole thing. Kind of like this band..

Q: How many people are in Myles of Destruction currently?

TONY: Including the spiritual entities summoned when we play, I'd say somewhere on the order of 142.
AUDREY: 17
MYLES: we are many! There’s only 3 of us.

Q: Where are you guys from and how old are you guys?

TONY: fucking ancient, from the outer ring of Astron Delta.
AUDREY: Mars, 25,000,000 years old
MYLES: I’m originally from a neighborhood in Philadelphia that the film “Eraserhead” was based upon. I mention that too much in interviews, but it’s true. I’m also 23.

Q: What type of musick do you consider Myles of Destruction?

TONY: Contemporary Christian for the hearing impaired.
AUDREY: easy listening
MYLES: seizure inducing music therapy and exorcism.

Q: How did you guys come about with this unique style?

AUDREY: we were born that way
TONY: I concur with Audrey and I would also like to add that drugs help.
MYLES: uh huh.

Q: How long has Myles of Destruction been around

TONY: Good question. Myles?
MYLES: 3 years. This all began as a one man band with myself, my bass and a drum machine. That was 1999. Sometime in 2001 Audrey, Tony and I joined forces and this began to feel like an actual band. We’ve never had a guitarist and never will, much to the dismay of many six string samurais out there.

Q: What are your political and religious beliefs?

AUDREY: I live to play and play to live
TONY: I do not discuss politics in a forum involving our music. It's just weird for me. Music I am involved in has never been political, yeah.... I'm into mysticism, specifically, Islamic mysticism from Morocco.
MYLES: I don’t put faith in much. As a male homosexual, “the church” is not exactly a source of salvation for me. All religions interest me a great deal, but I have yet to follow one or feel an urge to. I believe all living things have souls. Different experiences I’ve had in my life that involved the separation of my body and mind in varying extremities have led me to consider the possibility that there may not be “reincarnation” but there is very likely something more than just the physical form alone. I’ve never really bought into the idea of just rotting in the ground in the end. Or heaven and hell for that matter. I sound like such a pretentious asshole. How did we get on this again?

Q: What is behind the songs of Myles of Destruction?

TONY: uh, we are.
AUDREY: the washer, dryer, and cat litter
MYLES: Jagged Teeth, collapsing walls and broken hearts.

Q: How many official releases does Myles of Destruction have?

AUDREY: 3, not including comps.
MYLES: or 4 track demo tapes. We’ve released two cd-rs, which you can’t order anymore. Our most recent release is a 9 song CD LP called “Running Only Makes The Fire Worse”.

Q: Has Myles of Destruction played live and if so with who and where?

AUDREY: i don't have all day
MYLES: We’ve been playing bars, basements, warehouses, bedrooms, shacks in the woods and outdoor parks for 3 years now. We’ve played live on the air for two FM radio stations and toured parts of the East Coast last year. Being difficult to pigeonhole musically, we’re billed with a really fantastic diversity of bands. To give you an idea without name dropping, this summer we had to turn down an opportunity to play with a traveling underground circus because of a previous commitment we had as guests on this goofy lady’s noise and pop radio show. And that was still so much fun! TONY: We've played a ton and its almost always awesome. We've played with some neato bands like James Love Jackson (RIP), Stendhal, F.O.D., Dragon Green, Weedeater and Goat Shanty

Q: Any plans to tour?

AUDREY: yes
TONY: yes, soon. again.
MYLES: Myles of Destruction are going out AGAIN in the late spring/summer of 2003, hopefully longer this time. Not sure where exactly. We’d love more recommendations and contacts!

Q: What types of music are your favorites?Bands and genres?

AUDREY: right now, Crimpshrine, Cab Calloway, Tragedy, Pinhead Gun Powder, Select 68, The Andrews Sisters, Yellow Machinegun, and Choking Victim
TONY: That's tough.... I'm really into 80's metal... Slayer, Metallica, Sodom, Overkill, Anthrax, etc... I'm also into Baul music from India, Gnawa and Jajouka music from Morocco, Qawwali music from Pakistan and then back to Black Sabbath, Melt Banana, Bongzilla... a ton of stuff. I really should shut up about it all.
MYLES: We recently all saw Melt Banana together. It was wonderful. The opening bands were really inappropriate and boring. I listen to more Bjork than most people can stand. This week I also enjoyed allot of Crisis, Tom Waits, Voivod, Amon Tobin, Matmos, Candy Whales, Abiku, Foetus, Ed Flis, Cannibal Ox, Creation is Crucifixion, Portishead, Siouxie and The Banshees, Clara Rockmore, Swans, Cranes, Nick Cave and Miles Davis. I also have a fixation on allot of Japanese music. Everything from Merzbow to Koto stuff. I recently even came to terms with liking the Smiths alittle.

Q: What is your Influences?

AUDREY: everything (pro football, elderly people, and walks on the beach)
MYLES: K holes, Nightmares and Bad Acid Trips. Also Excessive Coffee and Sugar.

Q: What is the local scene around you like?

AUDREY: 7 inches of snow!!!!
TONY: confusing, like everything else.
MYLES: Philadelphia is my home town and it is totally exploding with amazing bands right now! The only problem is finding and maintaining places for them to play. Audrey and I are essentially both punk rock kids who frequented the old warehouse space, Stalag 13 in West Philly. Since that venue shut down, d.i.y. bands both in this city and passing through have had allot of trouble finding a steady location to play at. This town has an amazing basement scene. Anything larger gets shut down pretty fast with the exception of one church and the guy who books stuff there. Allot of the bars are owned by clear channel (see here: Clear Channel Sucks ) and won’t give “less established” bands the time of day.

Q: Are you or any of your members involved in projects?

TONY: nope.
MYLES: Weren't you building a tabla with that guy william introduced you to? I do noise experiments using a saw and a violin bow. Right now my friend is helping me better understand my old drum machine. I really want to study an instrument seriously again. I sometimes feel like I hold the rest of the band back with my ineptness. Apart from that not much. I work 7 days a week!
AUDREY: I play bass in Umiak ,and in the now defunct Captain Crash, and I have a band at work called the Mambo Jambo Reeds

Q: What are your favorite art, books, movies,or TV shows?

AUDREY: Midnight Madness
TONY: Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Big Lebowski. Books? I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett (Discworld novels)... I don't get to read much unless it's in Arabic, these days....
MYLES: oh, now you’ve done it. Movies.. Brother’s Quay Animation, Hour of The Wolf, Paradise Lost, Dark Days, Speaking in Strings, Dancer in The Dark, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Blue Planet, Bowling for Columbine, Princess Mononoke, Akira, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Stepford Wives Books… “The Painted Bird” by Jerzy N. Kosinski, “Geek Love” by Katherine Dunn, “Ninevah” by Clark Roth “The Kid” by Dan Savage, “The Consumer” by M. Gira, “Period” by Dennis Cooper Art… Mo Moussa, Heironymous Bosch, Karyn Crisis, Edward Gorey, Nick Blinko, Pushead

Q: What do we expect soon from Myles of Destruction?

AUDREY: Plenty more Destruction
TONY: Bunnies. Big fluffy bunnies. ...and more smashing. We're coming out on a comp next year with Melt Banana, so that's really exciting. Tour sometime this summer.... we're examining out prospects right now.
MYLES: whatever happened to us being on that zombie film soundtrack? I love playing. Allot more of that.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

AUDREY: Thanks.
TONY: Thanks for the interest our music!
MYLES: Other strange projects reading this please get in touch! I'm all about checking out weird new music!
