Q: Where did recant get the name,What does it mean,and Why did you choose that name? A: recant- to revoke publically (usually a statement) We chose this name because we choose to display our work through music and images, rather than words like previous bands we had been in. We think it's better this way. Q: What type of musick do you consider recant? A: I guess we would have to say that we've been told we are "avante garde" but we don't want to sound pretentious. We are mostly electronic by the way. Q: How long has recant been around? A: Since last Novemeber, 2001 Q: How many people are in recant currently? A: 2, David and Brian Q: How old are you guys? A: David is 18, and Brian is 19 Q: What is behind the songs of recant,What are they about? A: Most of our songs are a combination of vague artistic conceptions in our heads with a desire to educate people to some of the atrocities of life, without using them for shock value. However, we engourage open interpretation of our music, and there is no one right way to do so. Q: How many official releases does recant have? A: Just one, "gesture" which is currently self-released. Q: Has recant played live,and if so with who? A: Yes we have played live with bands like VX Twitch, MAL form, and 1volatile1. Q: What is your political and religious beliefs? A: We don't feel that to be important, and they are rather complicated to fit into an interview. Perhaps we can write a book or two for you later? Q: What do you think of Christians? A: It depends on the Christians. Christians as a whole are just people. If a person decided that what they do is travel to other countries or go on TV and hand out pamphlets to "spread the word" then they are no longer a person, they have become a marketing representative. There is hypocrisy in all religion Christianity is just the most widely known. Brian wants to add that he wholeheartedly disagrees witht he self-imposing of rules upon oneself, and therfore disagress with Christian philopshy or any religion that uses dogma. Q: What types of music are your favorites?Bands and genres? A: Brian: um..lots but here are some: Skinny Puppy, the Legendary Pink Dots, Burzum, Marilyn Manson, The Cure, Ulver, Emperor, Current 93, Coil, download, Iron Maiden, Therion, Neurosis, Nine Inch Nails, Twin Peaks Soundtracks. Anything weird and lots of stuff in noise, industrial, ambient, experimental, black metal, all other kinds of metal etc. David: Lately I've been listing to a lot of Portishead, Nine Inch Nails and Goldfrapp, as for genres of music I'm into Industrial, Noise, Classical, Jazz, and all sorts of Metal. Q: What is the local scene around you like? A: Hard and frustrating. Tons of good bands, and hardly anywhere to play. Too many 21+ places. Q: Are you or any of your members involved in side projects? A: Not at the moment. Q: What are your favorite books,movies,or TV shows? A: David: For movies, anything with Kevin Spacey in it or directed by David Lynch or David Fincher. American Beauty is my favorite movie. TV shows, Twin Peaks, Dragon Ball Z, So Graham Norton, Six Feet Under.
