One of the heavy weights of experimental doom.Sunn0))) are a wall of sound. The loud fog horn sound created by this duo will swoon you into a whirling abyss of heaviness. So let's see what is up with the sonic doom of Sunn0)))

Q: we'll start with the usual: Who all is involved with Sunn0))) and how long has it been going on?

A: The core of sunn is GREG ANDERSON and STEVE O' MALLEY since our inception in 1995 we have collaborated/worked with: Stuart Dahlquist, Rex Ritter, Runhild Gammelsaeter, Joe Preston, Matthias Schneeberger etc..)

Q: Do you have a particular mission or game plan in mind when doing Sunn0))) and if so, what is it?

A: Complete audio experimentation through low-end frequency manipulation

Q: From what I've heard the next release promises to be amazing. When's it due and what can we expect?

A: April 2003. It will be diverse. We worked alot with Joe Preston (ex-Earth/Melvins, Thrones). Another attempt at pushing the creative boundaries.

Q: Are most of your songs pre written or is alot of improv involved?

A: 90% improv/ documentation of the creation of sounds as they are happening. 10% pre-conceived ideas brought to the sessions.

Q: I apologize, but i have to ask a gear geek question- I've been a devotee of sunn amps for many years. Do you guys only use sunn gear when recording? Do you have a particular favorite?

A: Yes. Model T's are a favorite sunn-coliseum heads are great for recording as well.

Q: Sunn0))) hasnt done alot of live shows in the past. is this something that will change or that you even want to change?

A: sunn isnt really a live band. We have done about 20 shows total. We are touring Europe in Mar/April 2003 including a appearance at the : All Tomorrows Parties festival in the UK (curated by Autechre)

Q: Aside from the obvious (Earth), what else influences Sunn0)))?

A: Thomas Koner, Melvins, Joe Preston, Fonatanelle,Grief, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock,Isengard.

Q: There seems to be a current of occultism and mysticism (mostly of a highly personalized and stylized variety) in heavy music these days. of course, theres always been the occult popping up in rock based music, but this tends toward playing heavy as something spiritual. Could Sunn0))) be considered a personal occult or spiritual vehicle for those involved?

A: yes, speaking only for myself, I use sunn as a way to relax, and try to clear my mind of obstacles. Audio-drugs...a release, escape from the drags of life.

Q: Any interesting reading material or music that you'd like to recommend?

A: Squarepusher-"Music is Rotted One Note"
"Lexicon Devil" (the Darby Crash story)
Toadliquor-album
Grief-anything
Joe Farrel-"Moon Germs"
John Abercrombie-ECM albums
Wayne Shorter-"the All Seeing Eye"

thanks for your time
