Q: Where did Yeti get the name,What does it mean, and Why did you choose that
name?
Jon: T.:A.: came up w/ it. To me it represents undiscovered, atavistic,
hyper-intelligent beasts. I also recall a Nepalese gentleman saying that it
meant "Magical Being"
T.:A.: I had it in my head for quite some time. I liked the idea of something intelligent yet atavistic, magickal yet very profane, solemn yet incredibly bestial... sentient and sensual yet terrifyingly destructive and frightening. probably not what comes into people's heads when they hear the word yeti, but its what i thought. another translation ive come across is "live rock animal". make of that what you will.
Q: How many people are in Yeti currently?
Jon: Three carbon, numerous
electro-mechanical.
Q: Where are you guys from and how old are you guys?
Jon: We have all lived in TX most of our lives and were born in the years of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Udu Wudu".
T.:A.: Yes, native Texan. I'm one year older than Hendrix and Morrison when they died but seven years younger than WS Burroughs was when he began writing seriously.
Q: What type of musick do you consider Yeti?
Jon: This is always a tough one. I like T.:A.:'s label of "Doom In Opposition". Over all I just think it's really loud.
T.:A.: "Doom in Opposition" works well I think. I also heard it described once as "complete destruction of perception through sensory overload".
Q: How long has Yeti been around?
Jon: August of '98
Q: What is your political and religious beliefs?
Jon: Politics and Organized religion are virtually the same. Obedience=Salvation. Each individual should examine themselves deep within and discover their own "system" and/or deity. Otherwise it's just consumption.
T.:A.: I'm 100% with Jon on this one. I could easily go on and on for pages on this. I tend to think of us as a very spiritual band (if I can avoid all the stickiness of that word) but its all very personal and highly subjective. In the end experiment, dont be sentimental, look inside and QUESTION QUESTION QUESTION. The way out is in and we're here to go.
Q: What is behind the songs of Yeti?
Jon: A lot of anxiety
T.:A.: Yes, anxiety. And anger. And tubes. And lots of cords.
Q:What are the lyrics about in the band if there are any even?
Jon: While they refer to tangible experiences we have undergone, there meaning is open to interpretation.
T.:A.: Poetic representations of states of mind or experiences we have been through, yet hopefully still ambiguous enough for others to take them where they want. I dont think we're trying to totally dictate something to someone, but rather leave a poetic essence of sorts to stimulate thought.
Q: How many official releases does Yeti have?
Jon: Let's save this for a discography at the end.
Q: What is the imagery you are trying to convey thru the media you have
chosen?
Jon: Once again, we're not on a mission to convey anything specific. The listener/ viewer can develop there own conclusions.
T.:A.: I feel its all very personal and subjective regarding how we think as a unit and hopefully others find their own meanings within it all.
Q: Has Yeti played live and if so with who and where?
Jon: Yes. We've played countless shows in and around TX, as well as a west coast tour and a trip to Progday 2001 in NC.
T.:A.: A crazy amount of shows in places I never thought I'd play. We've also been lucky enough to play with people we respect highly, ie High on Fire, Dystopia, and the Muffins.
Q: What types of music are your favorites?Bands and genres?
Jon: We all have very diverse tastes in music. Personally I love (and draw inspiration from), Black Sabbath, Igor Wakhevitch, Shub Niggurath, John Coltrane, GISM, Magma, Can, Sleep, Boris, Koenji-Hyakkei, Miles Davis, Emperor, Funkadellic, Archaia, Richard Pinhas (Heldon), Eskaton, Tony William's Lifetime, Kodo, Melvins, Present, Khanate, Zeni Geva, Saint Vitus, Eric Dolphy, Naked City, Godflesh, Dystopia, The JB's, Univers Zero, Discharge, King Crimson, Henry Cow, High on Fire, Saw Throat, Art Bears, Rahmann, Stooges, Man is the Bastard…… this list could go on and on and on and on.
T.:A.: Swans, Coil, Neurosis, Godflesh, Khanate, Sunn0))), Magma, Shub Niggurath, Il Balleto Di Bronzo, Art Bears, Black Flag, Crossed Out, Assuck, Carcass, Man is the Bastard/Bastard Noise, Iron Maiden, Ween, Igor Wakhevitch, Tactile, Univers Zero, Present, Winter, Sleep, High on Fire, Dystopia, Funkadelic, Kyuss, Ruins, Koenji Hyakkei, late John Coltrane, electric era Miles Davis, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Merzbow, Eskaton, Angelo Badalamenti, DRI, Infest, MC5, Black Sabbath, the Doors, Zeni Geva, Autechre, Future Sounds of London, Hendrix, Goblin.....I'll stop now. ' probably repeated a bunch Jon already mentioned, but thats ok.
Q: What is the local scene around you like?
Jon: We are extremely lucky to have such an open-minded community. It's full of people who genuinely care about music and the people that create it. It's not many places where you can have a show with a hardcore band, a jazz band, a semi-acoustic classical/ country band and a YETI on the same bill and have all of the attendees watch and appreciate each band. Fucking amazing.
T.:A.: Jon stated it perfectly. And it really is amazing. Also, I think Fort Worth is criminally overlooked when it comes to original and interesting music.
Q: Are you or any of your members involved in side projects?
Jon: T.:A.: (the DSA Working)
T.:A.: thats me.
Q: What are your favorite art, books, movies,or TV shows?
Jon: I really like Austin Osman Spare's writing and art, as well as George Bataille, Hakim Bey, RA Wilson etc. As artists go AOS, Aubry Beardsly, Rosalee Norton, Bosch, Abdul Mati, etc. The only TV I watch regularly is the Simpsons.

Dick, Bob Black, Robert Anton Wilson, Hakim Bey, Peter Lamborn Wilson, Chuck Palahniuk, Austin Osman Spare, Aleister Crowley, Tristan Tzara, Allen Ginsberg, Lautreamont, James Havoc, just now discovering JG Ballard. movies: Lynch, Cocteau, Kubrick, Ridley Scott, WS Burroughs and Brion Gysins short films, Maya Deren. art: Max Ernst, Duchamp (Etant Donnes may be the most gorgeous thing ive ever seen), Austin Osman Spare, Szukalski, my nephew Wesley Harden. TV: of course the Simpsons, Insomniac, Adult Swim, Mr Show (RIP), Twin Peaks.
Q: What is your involvement in Life is Abuse and Two Omh Hop?Are you involved
with other labels?
Jon: TOH stepped in from the start and made it possible for us to record and release our first album. They also got it to some really good distributors. For some reason their interest faded in releasing records. Life is Abuse has helped us a lot. Besides releasing "Things to Come…" on vinyl, they also helped us w/ our west coast tour. Thanks again Mauz!
T.:A.: Mauz is an incredible human being and we owe him a ridiculous amount. Also, Throne Records Throne Records out of Spain is planning on releasing us in Europe. Uge is a great guy, buy stuff from him.
Q: What do we expect soon from Yeti?
Jon: We record in early April. I'm not sure when it will be finished. We will continue to play live as often as possible.
T.:A.: More shows, More volume.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Jon: PUNKS IS ZEUHL
T.:A.: Create more and fuck more. Experience a psychedelic AT LEAST once in your life.
