Q: Please let us know your name?

A: My name is Costes, my parents were living naked, eating only potatoes and french stinky cheese on the mountains of the wild mountains. that's why they were called Costes, meaning the monkey at the top of the hill.

Q: What is it like in France?

A: I am living in an arab neighborhood. The young guys are dressed like Ben Laden. It is a fashion here. They go to the supermarket dressed as going to the battle field, but still wearing Nikes, and they buy Mecca Cola rather than Coca-Cola. Each time a tower or a railway station explodes, they dance happy in the streets. This is France in 2004. The only left old style catholic french are the naked nuts at the top of the forgotten moutain.

Q: Give a brief history of where you got the idea come to create your solo project Costes?

A: I wad playing in a hard-rock band in 1975. We just playing only covers of Deep Purple. In fact only Smoke on the water, because I could play the bass on one string. I was supposed to be the singer, but the guys thought I was plaing and singing too much out of tune. So they fired me. And now this is 30 years I play alone at home. I wanted to be a pop-star and I ended being the yelling bum.

Q: What are your influences?

A: I never listen music, neither watch film or talk to people. My only left influence is me. Masturbation is the main influence. There is the violent song before mastrubation and the depressed song after masturbation.

Q: How many people are in Costes currently?

A: Me, me and me. But for shows people join me. Drunk bums show their dick and sluts show their butt.

Q: What type of music do you consider Costes?

A: My music is a mix of noise and song. I sing on noise and I yell on melodies. This is because I love at the same time easy listening music and hard-core noise. And I try to put as much as possible pathos in the most obscene violent lyrics I can imagine. The most violent the song is, the most I feel relaxed after listening to it.

Q: What is your political and religious beliefs?

A: I believe I will die very soon. This is the engine of my creativity. To create as much as possible before death. Death is my only faith.

Q: What do you think of Christians?

A: I am catholic. I love rituals more than the message. Any faith is ok for me as long as I feel moved by an intense ritual.

Q: What is behind the songs of Costes?

A: Frustration bringing hate and despair... And sometimes a joke.

Q: What is the imagery you are trying to convey thru the media you have chosen?

A: I don't have any aim in my music. I do it without understanding what it means. This is a messy flow of intense images, wars and warriors and princess and goddess. My brain live in the dark age in the middle of nowhere.

Q: How many official releases does Costes have?

A: There are hundreds of CDs, tapes, live shows, films on american, japanese and european labels, but none are official.

Q: Has Costes played live and if so with who and where?

A: I have played more than 500 live shows in ten years. Four tours in USA, the last one being in 2003, and many tours in europa, and one tour in Japan.

Q: What is a typical show like?

A: It is what I call a porno-social opera. It is based on a story like a broadway musical, except it is gross obscene violent and mostly nude. In this way it is like the classic operas who were always very violent stories of crime and incest breaking all taboos. The music is mainly on a backing tape. the voices are live. There are two, three or four singers-actors. The story goes through songs and wild action. It lasts about an hour. for evey tour i create a brand new opera, with new story, new music, new actors.

Q: What is your involvement with Lisa Suckdog,please give a brief history?

A: I have been married to Lisa Suckdog in the 90's. The style I perform on stage was invented with her. At first we were doing those operas together. Then she decided to become a writer and I did the next operas with different people. But she stays for me the unchallenged icon of this style.

Q: What do we expect soon from Costes?

A: I just released the DVD of the USA tour Holy Virgin Cult, available in European PAL and USA/ Japan NTSC video standards (sold from my website). Two new cds in english are going to be released by american labels. and I will tour USA again in 2005.
